Having learned about your energy constitution, you will cease to have difficulty choosing a diet and stop at the one that suits you.
In traditional Chinese medicine, balance is considered the key to health and well-being. When there is a balance in the body, we are overwhelmed with energy and enthusiasm. We tolerate stressful situations, make mistakes less often, and remain satisfied with life under any circumstances. To gain physical and psycho-emotional health, it is enough to understand the principle of the ratio of yin and yang - two energies that, interacting with each other, form everything that exists in the universe. We recognize these forces through opposite qualities: cold and heat, darkness and light, moisture and dryness - which, having polar properties, essentially complement each other.
Yin and yang are like two sides of a hill, one of which is in the shade, and the other is lit by the sun. Cold, darkness, humidity, silence, calm - all these are the properties of yin. Yang, on the contrary, is full of heat, light, dryness, activity and anxiety. Winter season is the embodiment of yin, summer is yang. Estrogen is a hormone with yin energy, and testosterone is with yang energy.
Yin and yang color our mood. Concentration, calm thinking, as well as sadness and apathy are imbued with yin energy, and extraversion, arousal, anxiety and fear are yang. Interestingly, Western medicine views melancholy and depression as the result of the overproduction of the female hormone estrogen (yin), and fear the excess of the male hormone testosterone (yang).
In man in a certain proportion there is both yin energy and yang energy. When one of the elements goes out of balance, it affects the whole body as a whole. Imbalance is usually the result of an improper lifestyle and the harmful effects of the environment. Stress, excessive physical activity, low-calorie diet, adverse weather conditions - all this affects the state of internal harmony. For example, burning frost leads to an increase in the element of Cold in a person with a yin constitution. Conversely, if yang prevails in your constitution, you may experience physical discomfort in hot weather.
The most common sign of increased Cold is chills, which occurs, despite the high air temperature. Craving for heat, pallor, state of detachment, depression, apathy and fatigue speak of the disorder of heat transfer processes. Morning awakening, accompanied by heaviness in the head, pain and inflammation of the nasal mucosa, is also a symptom of this imbalance. Among other reasons, it is necessary to highlight the cold climate, malnutrition, old age, prolonged chronic diseases, excessive intake of cold drinks, juices, fruits, ice cream and other chilled foods. Excessive Cold in combination with Humidity slows down the metabolism and leads to excess weight.
A sure sign of Heat is a strong sensation of heat at a moderate temperature. When this element is upset, it is physically difficult to endure hot weather, there is a constant craving for cold drinks, a desire to hide in the shade or in an air-conditioned room. People with a predominance of Heat have a red face and a loud voice. They are irritable and easily lose their temper. They have a constant appetite, and they prefer fatty and cold foods. These people usually have high blood pressure and often suffer from headaches. The prevalence of Heat is often accompanied by fever on the lips, blackheads and a rash.
Heat can occur along with other pathogenic factors, such as Humidity and Wind. Usually his “attack” is the result of overwork at work, stress, living in a hot climate, smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol, as well as spicy and fatty foods.
Due to the heat, the moisture in the body dries and dryness occurs. The causes of this type of imbalance can also be a deficiency of saturated fats, taking certain medications, excessive anxiety and stress. Its symptoms include dry lips, tongue, mouth, throat, dry cough and blush. People prone to breakdown of this element are frighteningly sweet and can suffer from diabetes. Usually they have dry skin, brittle hair and nails. Asthenic physique also indicates a disorder of this element. Other symptoms include anxiety, irritability, and anxiety.
Dryness can occur with a change in the hormonal background, which occurs along with a slowdown in metabolism. Therefore, it is often accompanied by weight gain, especially in the abdomen. Stress, mental stress, excessive physical exertion, as well as eating at night, constant restrictions on food (including a low-calorie diet) and a dry climate also provoke an increase in this element.
Humidity Syndrome is characterized by rejection of dampness, fog, precipitation. An imbalance of this type causes swelling of the legs, ankles, bloating, stabbing, a feeling of heaviness and weakness. Humidity entails confusion of thoughts, lack of logic in reasoning. It is localized in the sinuses and causes inflammation. Humidity accumulated in the lungs manifests itself through diseases of the respiratory tract and bronchi.
This element can coexist with Heat and Cold. In the first case, the following symptoms appear: rejection of heat, precipitation, irritability, lethargy, bloating, red acne, wet cough. When Humidity is combined with Cold, cold aversion, slow metabolism, runny nose and a cold are characteristic. Living in a rainy, foggy, humid climate can cause an “aggravation” of Humidity and make it worse.
An imbalance of this element often leads to diseases such as paralysis or stroke. The wind also often causes flu and tonsillitis. Its symptoms are manifold: migratory pain, migraine attacks, rash on the chest or neck, trembling, cramps and dizziness. A person with a predominance of Wind-Cold has a persistent aversion to both elements. A striking example of this disorder is arthritis, exacerbated in cold weather. Upon contact of the Wind with Heat, head-wake-up, headache, rash, thirst, excitement and irritability occur.
The wind is amplified due to severe stress, high blood pressure, cholesterol plaques on the arteries, as well as due to windy weather.
If you understand your constitution and know which of the elements in your body is most likely to go out of balance, you can prevent possible ailments. Remember that even if there is only one disease (a headache, for example, occurs when there is an imbalance of Heat, Cold, Humidity and Wind), the approach to its treatment can be different - it all depends on which element is caused by the disorder.
It is not difficult to detect an imbalance, the main thing is to listen to what the senses and internal sensations tell us. They are able to prevent a moving disease faster than the most modern diagnostic equipment. As soon as you evaluate your health status and understand how to adjust your diet, everything will be easy and simple. From the table “How to choose products according to the element” you will find out which foods are healthy and which are bad for a person with a certain type of constitution.
